Curriculum Library

Our curriculum library is a carefully curated catalog of materials we use in the courses and programs we develop. We have created this list so that it is easily sortable. Simply click on the column header, and contents will sort accordingly. If you have a resource we should consider listing here, contact us.

Date Published Course Area Title Author Organization Country Rating
2016-2013 Cross-Cutting Public TCA Dropbox
Curricular material developed for the first Accredited TCA Certificate program as well as train-the-trainer curriculum for Cameroon, all of which is open source and may be used with attribution, involving lectures, exercises, and data.
The Carbon Institute All 5 Stars
2013 Cross-Cutting REDD+ Training Materials
Open source curriculum in English, French, and Spanish that can be used by TCA instructors with citation, focused primarily on measurement and monitoring, involving lectures, exercises, and case studies.

2014 Policy Forests in a Changing Climate: A Sourcebook for Integrating REDD+ into Academic Programs
A survey of the many different facets of REDD+, including the social, political, and technical aspects.
UNEP All 2 Stars
2015 Cross-Cutting REDD+ Academy E-Course
12 Learning Journals (English, French, Spanish), and Facilitator’s Notes for training of trainer programs in English and French, with crosscutting coverage of various REDD+ topics.

2014 Remote Sensing Assessment of Biomass and Carbon of Mangroves in West Africa
This study develops carbon stock densities and total carbon stocks for mangroves in a number of West African countries, including Cameroon. This regionally-specific resource can be useful as a means of using real data, teaching remote sensing and allometric equations, and introducing the growing attention to “blue carbon.”

2016 Cross-cutting Carbon Accounting GHG fluxes from forests: An assessment of national reporting and independent science in the context of the Paris Agreement
This study compares forests in national GHG inventories against external estimates. This can be a useful resource for introducing students to how their carbon accounting skills can be applied and to the concept of transparency under the Paris Agreement.

2014 Policy Assessing change in national forest monitoring capacities of 99 tropical countries
This study attempts to assess and quantify the improvement of NFMS for tropical developing countries between 2005 and 2015, as an assessment of capacity building efforts. This resource may be useful for regionalizing the current capacity in NFMS in the learner’s region of study.
Forest Ecology & Management All 3 Stars
2016 Cross-Cutting Global Tree Cover and Biomass Carbon on Agricultural Land: The contribution of agroforestry to global and national carbon budgets
This study attempts to quantify the carbon stocks and fluxes of forests in agroforestry systems. This may be useful as an example of the type of research that is pushing the boundaries to ensure that carbon accounting approaches (e.g., in the IPCC guidelines) are capturing the real value of terrestrial carbon stocks as accurately as possible. Highlights include the quantification of changes in biomass on agricultural land in nearly all forested countries.

2012 Reference Levels A step-wise framework for setting REDD+ forest reference emission levels and forest reference levels
This working paper suggests a framework for approaching the construction of a REDD+ reference level, summarizing the UNFCCC guiding and providing steps. This resource will be useful to introduce the many decisions that must be made to build a reference level, and may serve as a practical reference paper in the future, as learners enter their careers.
CIFOR All 5 Stars
2016-2014 Cross-Cutting Curriculum on forests and climate change
Includes a semester-long course on Carbon Measurement and Monitoring, with lectures, exercises, and homework. LEAF has also developed tools and standards in Terrestrial Carbon Assessment, Technical Guidance, Policy Development, and other important areas.
